Keeping up with manners in a busy world

With every passing day, activities that demand our attention keep increasing. As a result, we are distracted from essential aspects of our daily life. The work culture and obsessive use of the cell phone have made us busy away from keeping up with family ties, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and eating habits, and, more importantly, keeping up with manners in our day-to-day affairs.

Amidst the craze in today’s society, how do we maintain our manners and etiquette? This is what this article dives into.

Let’s ride on.

Throughout history, manners have always been an essential part of daily life. They tell others that you’re respectful and polite. It is necessary to have good manners to survive in today’s society.
You have to keep your mind calm amid thousands of things calling for your attention by being wary of your body language and how others perceive it. Your actions, as they say, speak louder than your voice. Therefore, no matter the excuse you may bring forth to justify your lack of manners, you will still be looked at as the uncultured fellow in the pack.

Respect your elders
Today, being uncultured is the norm, and seniors are not left out in the show as we often find people shame and act rude to them in the open glare. The common courtesy of opening the door and holding it till seniors or our spouse gets in, handling them food plates, and trying to be the best host when entertaining them is gone. It is now an all man to himself rule. And sadly, kids grow up learning and imitating these kinds of threatening gestures from us.

Accept criticism and learn from mistakes.

Also, almost everywhere you turn, you would see people getting mad at anyone trying to call their attention to something they did wrong. They throw caution to the loose and act rashly instead of making adjustments in the right direction.
Instead, we should meet criticism with a ‘thank you and see it as a learning phase as every criticism comes with someone who has taken their time to pick out your flaws to become better in life.

Keep your work and personal life separate.

Another thing wrong with manners nowadays is that people try to multitask all through every passage of time. While they are gathering with colleagues at work, family members, or any other place, they are busy with their phones or just not paying attention to those around them. This adds to the connection gap plaguing society as the internet has made communication more accessible, but relationships have unfortunately widened. So it is of utmost importance that we begin to take these abandoned manners into use before it completely wrecks the basic foundation of society.

Summarily, as people in today’s society now associate manners with being too old-fashioned and awkward, it becomes hard to bridge the fine line between genuine politeness and come across as an ostentatious freak.

With that, the need to be in our best manners regarding everyone around us keeps increasing every day.

But never forget this: Manners matter. They make or break a person. So learn them, use them, and enjoy the benefits that come with them.
